The Irish holiday, St. Patrick’s day, is celebrated all over the United States, mainly by dressing in green and heading to the nearest Irish pub to drink Guinness among friends. However, my St. Patrick’s day experience exceeded my expectations two years ago when I visited friends in Chicago. Every year the Chicago river is dyed green to kick off the celebration that later precedes a parade. The dyeing of the river tradition started in 1962 and has ever since continued to brighten the city with it’s bright emerald green.
